Our Standards
Finlays cares about the conditions under which our tea and coffee is produced and our team benefits from experience and local knowledge of the countries where we operate as well as significant local knowledge and control over our supply chains. We are continually updating our knowledge and relationships with producers through visits and working in partnership, both locally and with international organisations.Our Standards
We are a founding member of the Ethical Tea Partnership (ETP), a tea industry initiative which ensures that tea is produced according to ethical standards on working conditions. The standards are monitored by international, third party, independent monitors. Finlays also participates in the Ethical Trading Initiative (ETI), a tri-partite initiative with trade unions, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and companies discussing the promotion of good labour standards in supply chains.
We are members of the newly formed Common Code for the Coffee Community (4C). This is focused upon the efficient production and processing of coffee, combined with respect for the social and environmental conditions of its production, and forms the basis for improving the situation of coffee growers and workers worldwide. 4C creates incentives designed to optimise transparency and traceability along the whole coffee chain and to increase the awareness of individual responsibilities in its production, processing and trading.
In Sri Lanka and Kenya, Finlays is a licensee of the Fairtrade Foundation, which promotes a fair deal for marginalised producers. We produce many Fairtrade products and have been proactive in promoting the benefits of Fairtrade to our customer base.
We’re currently accredited for EFSIS BRC Global Standard (Grade A). EFSIS is the independent service providing retailers, manufacturers and caterers with food quality inspections. We’re also received accreditation from HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point) protocols, Lean Manufacturing, Organic Production (Soil Association licensee) and, of course, Fairtrade.
Finlays is affiliated to the UK Tea Council, as well as being a founding member of the British Coffee Association and member of the UK Beverages Services Association.
